Their pizza is 5/5 but they're also the nicest people in the pizza business. Real neighbourhood feel, these guys have offered to let me have a slice and bring cash back the next time I'm back..
The other day I walked in with my 2 year old son who loves pizza and they gave him a free slice to go. Just a real gem of a place. Our family is a Luigi pizza fan for life! -

I am changing my review to reflect my current impression of Luigi's.
My take of the quantity of food stands. As a meal for lunch or dinner, the slices utterly fail at satiating your hunger. The slices are priced ok at $2.50 for a regular, but you'd need at least 3-4 slices to even remotely make yourself full. And that's a far more expensive meal compared with buying two slices at almost any other pizzeria.
So here's my take: this is a nice snack slice, something to enjoy in between real meals. Or, you can splurge and eat half a pie or more as a meal.
Now for the review of the pizza itself. It's quite excellent, and very unique! The slice I had recently had an excellent crust with crisp texture and excellent flavors. The sauce and cheese were ok, but nothing to write home about. The crust is what is what truly defines this pizza, and is worth 4 stars alone.
It's a bit of a backhanded compliment, but I would call Luigi's a bakery that happens to cook pizza. And I don't think it's a real stretch. They actually dedicate half of their store space for their dough refrigerators.
With that said, I will almost never go here for lunch anymore, but will pop in from time to time for a snack slice. -

Delicious, close to home, I'm so glad Luigi's is here. Easy take out. They deliver. Everything there is delicious!! Definitely a neighborhood gem

I usually love this place but today this woman who worked there , older like 60 or 70 told me I could not sit down at a table because that was "her" seat. When I asked to sit across from her she said "no that's where the delivery guy sits" meanwhile the delivery guy is working and not sitting at all. So she makes a pregnant me, stand and wait for 20 mins meanwhile the seat across from her never gets occupied. Not going back.

In the 10 years that I've now resided in NYC, there is one fact that has been consistently true about any time I moved, and that is that my pizza situation has always gotten better. With the last move in September 2018, I found Luigi's, and the good luck continues.
Even my five year old thinks this is the best pizza in the world. "One. Million. Hundred. Percent" to quote her exactly. It's now her Friday evening ritual to grab a slice here. Kid's got her priorities straight, what can I say.
It's the very definition of a family run neighborhood joint. Old school Italians too. You can catch the old guy in here tossing the dough, decked out in gold.
You're not going to be able to order on Yelp or Seamless. Who knows if that'll change, but as of this writing, you still gotta call it in and talk to someone. Even the delivery guy I think is part of the family, and he'll bend your ear for a minute about how everyone's in a rush these days (pro tip: he's not zipping about the good on an electric bike so you'll have to come down to pick up). I still remember the first time I ordered, I didn't know the drill. He buzzed the door 3 times and I keep buzzing him in expecting him to come up. Finally he called my cell and in gruff Brooklyn style was like "You wanna eat?? You gotta come get it buddy". Good guy though.
So put away your Seamless, call and talk to someone, and support this great family joint. You won't be disappointed. Oh and don't order from the other Luigi's that's actually on Seamless... They're way down in Sunset Park and it ain't the same.
